Terms used across AVW install guides.

Retrofit

New window or door unit set into the existing frame. Frame stays — sash and meeting rail come out.

Box / Full-Frame

Entire existing unit and frame removed. New box unit set into exposed framing.

Nail-Fin

Flange around the unit perimeter nailed into framing/sheathing before exterior finish.

Back-Bead

Sealant applied around the opening before the unit is set.

Beauty Bead

Exterior sealant bead between the unit fin and stucco — finished for a clean look.

Reveal

Visible gap between door/window and jamb — should be even on all sides.

Flat Trim

Trim stock used for shims and interior finish — also used laminated for bottom shims.

Demo

Removal of existing window, door, or sash material.

Crew Chief

Lead installer who plans the job and runs the crew on site.

Right Hand

Second lead on crew — supports chief, often handles finish pass.
